Modhumita Cinema Hall will be crashed !!

This morning a news headline in JanaKantha caught my eyes ! "Modhumita cinema Hall will be broken down "! Why it caught my eyes ?

I didn`t know the actual history.. Ya do u know that who is the owner of Modhumita ? The English Channel champion "Brojen Das" is the owner of Modhumita. When he made the history in English channel then the Governor in bangladesh was Monayem Khan. He asked Brojen Das for anything .. then Brojen das most surprisingly didn`t demand any money, he just asked for a place. Then Monayem Khan alloted him the place of "Modhumita".

No this is not the end. Then Brojen das fell in a false position - what to do with this place ? He was used to gossip in "Beauty Board" in Pary mohan Das lane - [approximately in the year of 1963]where all the Columnist, writer, poet used to gossip. Then Brojen Das once met Abdul Jabbar khan [director- 'Mukh o Mukhosh']. Abdul Jabar Khan gave him the proposal of making a cinema hall .. then the history begins ..

In the year 1966 Modhumita started its journey with name of "Channel Theater" coz Brojen Das was the channel Champion. The first show was "Cleopetra". This very hall is only one hall in bangladesh which has 70% permission of English movie and 30% Bengali.

Then before leaving this country Brojen das handed over this to his manager Md. Sirajuddin. One of the realtives` of Sirajuddin was 'Modhumita'; so after her name the name was changed.

Anyway right now the grand sons of Sirajuddin are looking after this cinema hall. I know one of them- Mr. Naoshad. But it is true that they want to break down the whole cinema hall.. their plan is to make a Modhumita complex, a small cineplex , etc. etc.

But when I was in Notre dame i had a great good memories of watching movies in modhumita.. (oh those days !! ) "titanic", "terminator-II" , "shonkhnil Karagar"... .... Now my office is also in this building .. I really didn`t notice that I had been so attahced with this cinema hall .. when I saw the news of crashing the building then I realized the truth !! "Me, myself and Modhumita cinema hall"

Mr, Dipu, ur story on Modhumita Cinema is totally incorrect,i cant believe without gwting the facts right you have posted such hedious false stories,if they want they can take you to court.

Sirajudind bought the place with from mr. das, coz the famous channel swimmer didnt have any money to built anything there.mr Saraj was one of the main Industraliest in east pakistan, we started of with import and export in Chalk bazar owns buildings there still and also donated a school for the comunity there in oldtown during those days before he made the cinema hall. the schools name is Sirajuddin model boys school and sirajuddin model girls school.

Even before he made modhumita one of the finest oldscholl hall in bangladesh, he was famous for hs soap industry. He is also one of the founders of Dhaka Chamber of Commerce.u can still see his name on the board....the list goes on and on......

Me dipu check with the fact before you post these articles.

I would advise you to take this article off the web, check with the facts....then post a truely, lagit, othentic one.....you owe it to them.....

Mr.Dipu perhaps you are too young to have posted the fact that was not only wrong but false and fabricated about MODHUMITA. The History was made way before you were born hence it went over your head. The distorted facts you have are not only wrong but are away from the Truth. May be you should have discussed Modhumita's history with your parents or your elders.

The facts are as follows:

1.Modhumita stared its journey as Modhumita and not Channel Theatre.

2. The cinema was inaugurated by the then Speaker of the house of Parliament Pakistan the Late Abdul Jabbar Khan, the late father of the much respected and celebrated Journalist and founder of The Holiday Late Enayetullah Khan, Mr.Rashed Khan Menon and others on the 1st of December 1966 with a host of other Ministers of the then Pakistan by Late Mohammad Sirajuddin as the hosting Managing Director of Modhumita Cinema and not Broyjon Das.

3. The first Inaugural show was not "CLEOPATRA" but a Bangla film nane"DAK BABU" Directed by the famous Late Mustafizur Rahman for the guests.

4. The first public shows open to public the following day was of course CLEOPATRA.

5. Late Mohammad Sirajuddin was the founder Managing Director of the Parent Company Channel Cinema Ltd. which was as you wrote rightly formed by Late Broyjon Das and his total shares sold/transferred to Late Mohammad Sirajuddin before the construction of the said cinema started in 1963The adjacent building i.e. holding number 156-157 Motijheel known as "SIRAJ BUILDING" with Rupali Bank was owned by Late Mohammad Sirajuddin along with 55, Motijheel known as Zarin Mansion (where the Foreign Exchange Branch of Dutch-Bangla Bank is located) which was also built before Modhumita and Siraj Building.

5. Late Mohammad Sirajuddin was Not the manager of Modhumita and the name was never changed from Channel Theatre. As a matter of fact no one is named Modhumita in Late Mohammad Sirajuddin's family. As a matter of fact MODHUMITA is a brand name and no company with that name exists. It was chosen from 10,000 or so names that was posted to his office and the person's name chosen was also awarded by Late Mohammad Sirajuddin along with a Free Pass for him to enter Modhumita at any show, any time for his life time.

6. Late Mohammad Sirajuddin had four sons and two daughters who are not only looking after Modhumita but the businesses he left behind i.e. Jute Mills, Real Estate etc.

7. None of Late Mohammad Sirajuddin's grand children are involved in Modhumita but are engaged in other businesses and carrier building jobs after their respective studies from UK,USA and Australia.

8. As you are working with an office in the same Modhumita Building it would be a rather GOOD IDEA to go and look them up for FACTS and not FICTIONS from, as they say, HOUSE'S MOUTH. It’s also a fact that till the last days of Late Mr.Broyjon Das he had very cordial relationship with all the family members of Late Mohammad Sirajuddin's sons and daughters.

Lastly, Mr. Dipu good luck with whatever pursuit you may be trying to achieve in life and all the best to you and your family members.
